FREE Garage Sales

Mission Southside partners with area apartment complexes, mobile home communities, schools, churches, and “helps” organizations to host FREE garage sales for low income families. Mission Southside provides donated furniture, clothing, and household items in order to bring hope to the under-resourced in our community. As often as possible, Mission Southside also provides free food to those attending the garage sale.

Donation Information

Mission Southside accepts donations of good, used (or new!) clothing, shoes, coats, household items, linens, toys, furniture, and other items that you would find at a garage sale. Non-perishable food and school supplies are also accepted. Items can be dropped off at Mission Southside during office hours (Tues-Fri 8:30 am-4:30 pm, Thurs 6-8 pm, Sat 9-11 am) or placed in the bin outside the front door at any time.

Please note: Mission Southside is not accepting donations of computer equipment. We also request that items be in good condition. If you would not give the item to a family member or friend in need, the item is not appropriate for donation to Mission Southside.

Food to be used at garage sales can also be donated. This would include hot dogs, buns, condiments, individual chip packages, fruit, cookies, bottles of water, plates, napkins, and cups. If you would like to donate food to be used specifically for garage sales or if your church or group would like to host the meal for a garage sale, please contact Craig.

Volunteer Information

There are several ways to volunteer for FREE Garage Sales:

Sorting and Processing: Volunteers generally process items to make sure they are appropriate for use at garage sales and sort clothing and other donated items into specific categories for the garage sales. Items are boxed and labeled and then stored until they are needed.

Sorting times are:
  • Thursdays from 6-8 pm
  • Saturdays from 9-11 am
  • Groups can schedule other times as desired ... to schedule a time, please contact Craig or visit our Volunteer page to sign up.

Assist at a Garage Sale: Volunteers are needed on the day of a garage sale to load the truck at Mission Southside, unload the truck and organize items at the garage sale site, help to run the sale smoothly, and then pack up what is left to take back to Mission Southside.

General Garage Sale Timeline:
  • Meet at Mission Southside to load trucks and unload at sale site: usually 1 to 1 ½ hours before the garage sale starts.
  • Assist with Garage Sale: 1 ½ hours
  • Pack up leftover items and unload at Mission Southside: usually 1 to 1 ½ hours
Cook and Serve Food: Volunteers are needed to grill hot dogs and assist with serving food to those attending the garage sale.
